The English Ministry is a joint mission of two different Christian communities:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Romania is as old as the Reformation.

Soon after Martin Luther posted his famous theses, men like Gaspar Heltoi and John Honterus spread the message of grace and faith throughout Transylvania.

Today, the ELCR consists of 39 parishes and 118 preaching points, served by circuit riding ministers.  Its presiding bishop is The Rev. Deszo Zoltan Adorjani.  The church has a beautiful new website, so click the link!

The Metropolitan New York Synod
is a regional expression of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

  • It consists of more than 200 churches in New York City and the surrounding areas.
  • Its bishop is the Rev. Robert Rimbo.  Since 2008, the MNYS has been a covenanted Companion Synod of the ELCR. Its other Companion Synods are in Tanzania and Oklahoma.

But alongside these two church bodies stand their many partners, including:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is one of the largest Lutheran communities in the world.

  • The ELCA's Presiding Bishop is the Rev. Mark Hanson.
  • The ELCA is in full communion with the Episcopal Church, the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, the Reformed Church in America, the United Church of Christ and the Moravian Church.  This means that we recognize each other as partners in the Gospel, welcome one another's members and can, under certain circumstances, share clergy with one another.
  • Lutheran Disaster Relief, one of the most efficient and admired US relief agencies, is a shared ministry of the ELCA and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Romania, a largely German-speaking community, works closely with the ELCR.

  • Its Presiding Bishop is the Rev. Dr. Christoph Klein.
  • In 2009, the ECAC is also exploring an English ministry, located in Sibiu.
The Lutheran World Federation is the international expression of the Evangelical Lutheran theological movement.
  • It is a global communion of 140 member churches in 79 countries.
  • It represents nearly 68.5 million Christians.
